Koishi Komeiji’s nightmare-like journey turns a familiar Touhou character into the center of an intimate 2D horror adventure. Set inside a shifting mental landscape where places and memories refuse to behave normally, 3rd eye focuses less on action and more on unease, isolation, and the consequences of seeing too much. Koishi begins lost in an unfamiliar realm, burdened by the mind-reading power she has spent her life fearing. Her search for answers gradually brings her back toward family, strangers with their own troubles, and truths that are difficult to face.

Exploration drives the experience as players move through hand-crafted areas including a lively park, a snow-covered field, an empty bamboo thicket, and Koishi’s mansion. The Third Eye reveals concealed items, routes, and secrets that ordinary observation misses, making it the essential tool for progressing through the world’s puzzles and blocked paths. Using it is never entirely safe: repeated reliance leaves the eye increasingly bloodshot, and players need to find and use eyedrops before its condition becomes critical. That simple resource-management pressure gives even quiet exploration a nervous edge, since curiosity can conflict with the need to preserve Koishi’s sight.

Rather than leaning on constant jump scares, 3rd eye builds horror through its disorienting setting, melancholic character writing, and the unsettling idea that the protagonist’s greatest gift is also her deepest wound. Encounters with Satori, Reisen, the Rabbit Girl, and other figures give the surreal world emotional texture while encouraging players to investigate every unusual corner. Its pixel-art presentation and dialogue-heavy structure make it feel closer to a psychological RPG Maker-style narrative than a combat-focused Touhou spin-off. Fans of Touhou Project lore, Yume Nikki-like dream worlds, and slower atmospheric horror should find plenty to appreciate, while newcomers can still follow Koishi’s personal story without needing encyclopedic series knowledge.
