Planet Lethe turns the familiar Alien nightmare into a tense, squad-level survival campaign where every sealed door, blip on the motion tracker, and burst of gunfire can end a Marine’s career. Aliens: Dark Descent trades lone-wolf shooting for real-time tactical command, putting you in charge of a Colonial Marine fireteam as it investigates a spreading Xenomorph infestation and Weyland-Yutani’s latest disaster. The tone is relentlessly oppressive, closer to James Cameron’s Aliens filtered through a tactical strategy game than an arcade shooter. Dark corridors, dwindling ammunition, and the knowledge that the creatures are hunting back make even routine objectives feel dangerous.

You guide the squad as a single unit through large, interconnected mission zones, ordering suppression fire, welding doors, deploying sentries, hacking terminals, and setting defensive positions when the swarm closes in. Tactical slow-motion lets you queue crucial commands without turning encounters into a conventional turn-based game, while motion trackers and the map help plot routes toward objectives, shortcuts, and extraction points. Each deployment demands careful resource management: Marines carry wounds between missions, accumulate stress and trauma, and can die permanently if a rescue goes wrong. Five classes, including Recon, Sergeant, Gunner, Medic, and Tecker, gain abilities and equipment through progression, while the Otago hub provides research, medical treatment, and upgrades between operations.

What separates Dark Descent from most Alien adaptations is its focus on sustained campaign consequences rather than disposable action. Enemies react to noise and repeated strategies, the planet becomes increasingly infested as time passes, and choosing to extract early can be smarter than forcing a battered team deeper into danger. Its overhead perspective may initially surprise players expecting Colonial Marines-style gunplay, but the sound design, pressure, and iconic creature encounters capture the series’ military-horror identity exceptionally well. Fans of XCOM, Commandos, or tactical games with permanent consequences find plenty to master, while Alien devotees get one of the most convincing interactive versions of the franchise.
