A hermit crab’s missing shell becomes the starting point for a surprisingly sharp action adventure about debt, pollution, and survival beneath the sea. Another Crab’s Treasure frames its soulslike challenge with bright cartoon creatures, absurd junk-based fashion, and plenty of jokes, but its ocean is steadily rotting under the weight of human waste. Kril begins as an undersized, vulnerable crab trying to reclaim what was taken from him, then gets pulled into a far larger crisis involving a dangerous spreading substance called the Gunk. The result balances colorful Saturday-morning energy with a world that has real environmental bite.

Combat centers on patient positioning, stamina management, dodging, parrying, and learning enemy patterns, much like Dark Souls or Lies of P, but Kril’s improvised shells give the formula its own personality. Bottlecaps, cans, cartons, and dozens of other discarded objects act as armor, each offering different defensive traits and often a special ability before eventually breaking under pressure. Exploration leads through kelp-filled shallows, reef settlements, sandy kingdoms, and ominous deep-sea zones, with shortcuts, dangerous encounters, hidden upgrades, and demanding bosses rewarding careful observation. Kril also learns Umami techniques from marine creatures, adding memorable powers such as crushing mantis-shrimp punches or worm-like traps to his growing combat toolkit.

What separates it from most punishing action RPGs is its willingness to make failure funny without making victory feel cheap. The shell system encourages experimentation rather than settling on a single build, while the varied regions and bizarre sea life keep the journey visually fresh. Extensive assist settings make the adventure far more welcoming than many genre peers, allowing newcomers to adjust the experience instead of bouncing off an early boss, while the standard difficulty still asks veterans to respect its timing and resource management. Players who want a clever, characterful soulslike with the accessibility of a modern indie adventure should find plenty to love here.
