Approximately Up turns space travel into a hands-on engineering problem where brilliance and catastrophic incompetence are equally entertaining. You begin on Earth with a few basic pieces, then assemble a vessel capable of crossing a solar system filled with hostile atmospheres, punishing gravity, and destinations that are rarely as simple as they sound. Every flight takes place from a first-person perspective inside the machine you built, so a misplaced wire, missing battery, or backward thruster becomes a personal problem very quickly. The tone sits somewhere between a thoughtful sandbox simulator and a co-op disaster comedy, especially when a crew’s “tested” rocket begins falling apart after launch.

Building is the heart of the experience, with frames, engines, fuel systems, solar panels, sensors, switches, meters, and specialized materials forming increasingly elaborate spacecraft.
