A moonlit Japanese-inspired fortress becomes a lethal puzzle box where every patch of darkness offers safety, mobility, and murder. Aragami casts you as an undead assassin summoned to free Yamiko from the Kaiho, a militarized force that turns light itself into a weapon. Its tone is deliberately somber and stylized, pairing ink-like cel shading and stark red accents with a story about revenge, identity, and two lives bound across time. Rather than charging through crowded arenas, you stalk rooftops, gardens, temples, and guarded streets while trying to remain unseen.

Shadow is both your hiding place and your resource. You crouch through cover, extinguish lights, create temporary pools of darkness, become invisible, and use Shadow Leap to teleport onto distant ledges or directly behind unsuspecting guards. Missions support a genuinely flexible approach: silently eliminate targets, slip past entire patrols without killing anyone, or use supernatural tools and close-range sword strikes when a plan collapses. Staying in darkness restores your power, while bright areas leave you exposed and limit your options, so each level becomes a careful exercise in route planning, observation, and timing. Challenge rankings reward clean runs and encourage revisiting missions to improve stealth, speed, and kill counts.

What makes Aragami memorable is how naturally its powers turn stealth into movement rather than simple waiting. Teleporting across rooftops and chaining shadow abilities gives it a satisfying predatory flow, while enemy vision, light sources, and varied map routes keep improvisation important. The campaign is more focused than a sprawling open-world stealth game, but its levels have enough alternate routes and optional objectives to reward repeat play, especially for players chasing ghost-like perfection. Fans of Mark of the Ninja, Tenchu, or Dishonored’s stealthier moments should find plenty to enjoy, although its unforgiving detection and limited direct combat favor patient players willing to learn each space.
