Assassin’s Creed Mirage (v1.1.1 & ALL DLCs)

Ninth-century Baghdad makes a superb stage for a focused return to assassination, rooftop escapes, and crowded-market deception. Assassin’s Creed Mirage follows Basim Ibn Ishaq before his later role in the series, charting his rise from a streetwise thief to a committed member of the Hidden Ones. Its tone is more intimate and grounded than the recent RPG-sized entries, pairing political intrigue and personal conflict with the familiar tension of stalking a target through a living city. Baghdad’s four major districts feel dense rather than enormous, filled with guards, citizens, secret routes, and social spaces that make every approach worth considering.

Most missions begin with investigation: Basim gathers leads, questions contacts, scouts restricted compounds, and decides how to reach a marked target. Stealth drives the loop, rewarding patient movement through crowds, rooftop parkour, distractions, throwing knives, smoke bombs, blowdarts, and carefully timed assassinations. Combat is deliberately dangerous when several enemies surround you, so parries, quick kills, gadgets, and escape routes matter more than simply clearing every guard in sight. Assassin contracts and side activities provide extra targets and resources, while skill upgrades, tool improvements, and outfits let players lean further into silent infiltration or fast, improvisational escapes.

What separates Mirage from Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla is its compact design and clear devotion to the older Assassin’s Creed formula. Parkour is not as freeform as the earliest games, but Baghdad’s interconnected rooftops, poles, balconies, and hidden entrances create satisfying movement once you learn the city’s layout. The Black Box-style assassination missions are a highlight, offering multiple ways to investigate and eliminate important figures rather than forcing a single scripted solution. The Valley of Memory update adds AlUla as a distinct desert region with an additional Basim-focused storyline, giving returning players more to uncover. Anyone who misses the tighter stealth focus of Assassin’s Creed Unity or Syndicate should find plenty to enjoy, while newcomers get a more manageable entry point than the franchise’s huge modern RPGs.
