Set decades after Emperor Jo’s fall, Blade & Sword 2: Ancient Legend sends its heroes through a land unsettled by the returning presence of Chiyou, mixing supernatural threats with a classic tale of power, destiny, and conflict. Its tone is dramatic rather than relentlessly grim, with colorful battlefields brought alive by rainstorms, snow, lightning, and shifting daylight. The result feels like an old-school PC adventure built around spectacle and direct combat rather than sprawling open-world distractions.

Combat drives nearly every part of the journey, asking players to move through combat arenas, cut down groups of enemies, manage positioning, and unleash skills at the right moment. Five selectable heroes provide meaningfully different approaches: the Swordsman offers an approachable all-round style, while the slower Great Warrior favors heavy damage and committed combo timing. Faster dual-blade attacks, long-range magical pressure, support abilities, defensive moves, and debilitating effects give the other characters their own rhythm, so success is not simply about clicking through crowds. Character growth and weapon enhancement let players strengthen a preferred build, while an unlockable hidden fighter rewards players who see the campaign through under the required conditions.

What stands out is the way its weather, lighting, and day-night systems give more than 20 battle locations a strong sense of place, especially for an action RPG of its era. Each scene aims for a painted wuxia atmosphere, but the controls remain focused on readable movement, rapid skill use, and responsive melee exchanges. It lacks the loot-heavy complexity of Diablo or the huge interconnected map of modern RPGs; instead, it resembles a focused arcade-leaning hack-and-slash with distinct character classes.
