Black Hills Forest turns a missing-person investigation into an unnerving VR descent through shifting paths, hostile darkness, and a protagonist whose memories are as dangerous as anything in the trees. Blair Witch VR places players behind the eyes of Ellis, a former police officer searching for a lost boy near Burkittsville, where the famous local legend has already claimed too many victims. Its horror is slow, intimate, and psychological rather than action-driven, using isolation, disorientation, and sudden supernatural intrusions to make every rustle beyond the flashlight beam feel threatening. Virtual reality makes the forest’s cramped trails and abandoned landmarks especially oppressive.

Most of the experience revolves around following leads, examining objects, interpreting clues, and trying to keep a sense of direction while the woods begin rewriting reality around you. Ellis carries practical tools including a flashlight, phone, and camcorder; the latter is more than a visual filter, as recorded footage can reveal secrets and alter certain events in the environment. Bullet, his loyal dog, is central to exploration: players issue gesture-based commands, pet him, play fetch, and rely on his reactions to locate trails, clues, and looming danger. The game favors tense navigation and environmental puzzles over conventional combat, though creature encounters and chase-like sequences force quick reactions when the forest turns openly aggressive.

VR-specific interactions give the relationship with Bullet more weight than in a standard first-person horror game, making him feel like a genuine companion instead of a scripted sidekick. The redesigned environments reward looking closely at the physical space around you, while the Blair Witch mythology provides a steadily escalating backdrop of warped time, guilt, and unreliable perception. Expect a focused, narrative-led horror campaign rather than an open-world survival sandbox, with replay value mainly coming from alternate choices and endings. Fans of Layers of Fear, Outlast, or Resident Evil 7’s slower exploration sections should find plenty to appreciate, while newcomers to VR horror should be ready for an intensely immersive and occasionally disorienting fright ride.
