A screaming 1980s action-movie parody, Broforce turns every mission into a pixel-art fireworks display of bullets, explosions, and collapsing scenery. Its campaign sends a squad of absurdly macho heroes through enemy compounds, alien hives, and infernal war zones where subtlety never stands a chance. The tone is gleefully ridiculous, packed with familiar action-film references, overblown patriotic speeches, and enough destruction to make a single rocket feel like a bad idea. Beneath the jokes sits a demanding run-and-gun platformer that can become brutally chaotic in seconds.

Players storm side-scrolling levels, rescue captives, eliminate objectives, and try not to be crushed by the buildings they have just demolished. Saving prisoners adds new “Bros” to the rotation, with each hero parody carrying a radically different primary weapon and special move, from blades and bows to flamethrowers, grenades, and summoned airstrikes. Death immediately swaps in another character, forcing quick adaptation and making every rescue meaningful; one hero can effortlessly clear a tight corridor while another accidentally turns the entire map into rubble. Nearly every surface breaks apart, so players can tunnel around defenses, trigger explosive chain reactions, or destroy the ground beneath themselves during the rush to an extraction helicopter. Local and online co-op support up to four players, while versus modes and the frantic timed Explosion Run mode offer alternatives to the main campaign.

Destructible terrain gives Broforce more personality than most retro shooters, because the level itself becomes both a weapon and a hazard. Random hero selection keeps repeat runs fresh, and the simple controls conceal smart positioning choices when explosives, enemies, hostages, and unstable platforms all share the same screen. A built-in level editor and community-made stages extend its lifespan considerably for players who want even more ridiculous set pieces. Fans of Metal Slug, Contra, and chaotic couch co-op shooters find plenty to love, though newcomers should expect frequent deaths and veterans will get the most from mastering each hero’s wildly uneven arsenal.
