Bubble Bobble 4 Friends: The Baron’s Workshop keeps the series’ playful arcade energy intact, but adds a larger campaign, boss encounters, and a toy-strewn bedroom setting that gives its handcrafted stages a charming miniature feel.

Every level revolves around controlling space: enemies become harmless once enclosed, yet the bubbles themselves bounce, drift on air currents, and double as temporary platforms for reaching dangerous ledges. Smart play means setting up large enemy groups for Chain Burst rewards, grabbing power-ups, and reacting quickly when crowded arenas fill with foes. Normal Mode offers hundreds of increasingly busy stages and unlocks a tougher set with altered layouts and enemies, while the extra challenge stages remove continues and reward rapid clears with time bonuses. Up to four people can tackle the action together locally, making chaotic rescues and accidental bubble pops part of the fun, while a Training option lets struggling players rehearse unfamiliar stages.

The standout addition is the Workshop, a straightforward level editor where players place terrain, opponents, and wind effects before testing, sharing, or downloading community-made challenges. That creative tool gives the focused arcade formula more life than a standard campaign alone, especially for groups that enjoy designing cruel little obstacle courses for one another. It also includes a faithful version of the 1986 original, complete with its secrets and old-school two-player structure, offering a useful contrast to the modern presentation. Fans of Snow Bros., classic arcade platformers, or co-op games with simple controls and surprisingly high skill ceilings should feel at home, though veterans will get the most from its demanding late-game stages.
