A sterile research complex becomes a maze of locked doors, flooded corridors, broken machinery, and predatory latex-like creatures in Changed, a tense indie escape puzzle game. You play Colin, an amnesiac survivor who wakes inside the facility with little explanation and quickly learns that nearly every encounter can end badly. The tone is unsettling rather than gory, mixing cute pixel-art character designs with an oppressive sense of isolation and danger. Behind its unusual creature designs lies a steadily unfolding mystery about the laboratory, the ruined outside world, and the figure apparently trying to guide Colin toward freedom.

Progress comes from searching each room, reading environmental clues, operating switches, moving objects, and finding safe routes through connected sections of the lab. Most threats cannot be defeated directly, so survival depends on timing, observation, and reacting quickly during chases; a wrong move usually sends Colin back to a recent checkpoint. Puzzles range from straightforward key-and-door obstacles to more involved navigation challenges involving machinery, pressure plates, hazards, and creature behavior. Numerous fail states make experimentation part of the loop, and the game expects players to learn enemy patterns rather than bulldoze through obstacles with combat skills.

What separates Changed from conventional horror escape games is the constant pressure created by its transformation-based enemies and the sheer variety of ways individual rooms can turn into traps. Its top-down pixel presentation looks approachable at first, yet the pursuit sequences and limited room for error can make it surprisingly demanding. Storytelling stays deliberately fragmented, rewarding players who inspect details and persist through repeated attempts, while later revelations give the strange setting more weight than its simple premise initially suggests. Fans of OneShot’s uneasy atmosphere, classic RPG Maker-style puzzle adventures, or compact horror games built around trial-and-error tension should find plenty to appreciate, though players wanting action combat or a forgiving challenge may find its chase-heavy design frustrating.
