An alien invasion becomes a colorful tug-of-war for Earth’s stolen Brainium crystals, with a young inventor and his mechanical cat leading the counterattack. Chip ‘n Clawz vs. The Brainioids mixes third-person shooting with real-time strategy, so players are never just watching units trade fire from a distant camera. Its comic-book premise and deliberately goofy villains keep the mood energetic and playful, even as the Brainioids’ floating Grav Spheres become increasingly serious targets. The campaign builds toward an assault on the invaders’ Mothership, giving the action a clear sense of escalation.

Players control Chip and Clawz directly, moving through brisk mission-based maps, fighting enemies, reclaiming territory, and gathering the means to expand their force. Combat involves more than aiming at aliens: buildings, weapons, vehicles, special abilities, and allied units all form part of the battlefield toolkit. A strategic Command View lets players pull back from the character-level action to organize their army and direct larger attacks, then return to the front line to fight alongside their creations. Story missions and optional challenges support solo play or cooperative sessions, while boss encounters demand attention to both personal survival and the health of your base and troops.

The standout idea is the constant switch between being a combatant and being a commander. Rather than the slow setup associated with traditional RTS games, missions aim for an accessible, immediate rhythm where decisions happen in the middle of a fight. Julian Gollop’s strategy pedigree is apparent in the emphasis on unit management and tactical priorities, but the bright presentation and direct controls make it less intimidating than a dense PC strategy title. Players who enjoy the hybrid appeal of Brütal Legend’s battlefield command or the approachable chaos of action-focused strategy games should find plenty to like, especially in co-op.
