An abandoned research complex beneath the earth turns every corridor, locked door, and burst of static into a potential threat. ColdSide is a first-person psychological horror game that casts you as Chris, a digger drawn toward a sealed facility once devoted to studying impossible phenomena. Its fear comes less from constant attacks than from uncertainty: something has gone badly wrong underground, and the building’s empty rooms never quite feel empty. The mood is bleak, claustrophobic, and deliberately unsettling, with a science-fiction mystery layered over supernatural dread.

Chris searches the laboratory for documents, access tools, and clues that explain the experiments conducted within its concrete halls. Progress revolves around navigating dark interiors, solving environmental obstacles, opening new sections of the complex, and surviving encounters with anomalies whose behavior is not always clear. Rather than giving players the security of heavy firepower, the game emphasizes caution and observation, making each strange sound or sudden visual disturbance matter. CryEngine-powered lighting and detailed industrial spaces support the illusion of a real, decaying facility, while composer Mikko Tarmia’s ambient score adds the low, oppressive unease familiar from Amnesia and SOMA.

SCP Foundation-inspired concepts give ColdSide its strongest identity, especially in the way it treats paranormal objects and entities as the aftermath of secret research rather than simple haunted-house monsters. The setting rewards players who enjoy reading notes, piecing together background lore, and letting atmosphere carry the horror between major scares. Its focused underground location keeps the experience compact and tense instead of turning it into an open-world survival project. Fans of SOMA, Amnesia, and slower-paced indie horror should find plenty to like, while newcomers to psychological horror can enjoy it if they prefer investigation and creeping dread over combat-heavy action.
