COMPOUND (v1.0)

Corporate corridors become a frantic VR battleground in COMPOUND, a roguelite first-person shooter built around fast movement, physical gun handling, and punishing firefights. You push through a dystopian mega-company’s facilities, blasting armed guards, mutants, robots, and heavier security units on a mission to bring down the people at the top. Its chunky voxel visuals and crunchy weapon effects deliberately evoke early ’90s shooters, but the tension comes from being physically present when bullets start tearing through the room. The mood is loud, hostile, and often darkly funny, with every run demanding concentration rather than casual target practice.

Runs send you through randomized floors packed with enemies, loot, branching routes, shops, upgrades, and dangerous encounters. Weapons are handled directly with VR controllers: reload firearms by hand, grab grenades, swap equipment, and use cover or room-scale movement to survive incoming fire. COMPOUND supports several movement and comfort options, including smooth movement and teleport-style alternatives, though its speed and aggression reward players already comfortable in VR. Death sends you back to the start, but unlocks, new character classes, equipment choices, and growing player skill steadily broaden the ways you can approach another attempt.

What separates COMPOUND from many VR shooters is its commitment to full campaign-style runs instead of static shooting-gallery waves. Enemies are dangerous, levels encourage exploration without becoming enormous, and the enormous variety of weapons makes an improvised run feel different from a carefully planned one. The low-resolution art style also serves readability well, keeping bullets, pickups, and enemy silhouettes clear amid hectic combat. Players who enjoy the run-based structure of Hades or The Binding of Isaac and the old-school bite of DOOM will find a lot to like, while VR newcomers may want to build their comfort level elsewhere before tackling its relentless pace.
