The story gradually pulls back the curtain on a threatening outside force, while the tone balances earnest wartime drama with colorful, approachable character design. Combat unfolds on compact 3D, quarter-view maps where position, elevation, terrain, and the direction units face all influence a turn. Players assemble squads, move them across battlefields, exploit advantageous angles, and decide when to press an attack or protect vulnerable allies. Character growth is unusually flexible: every hero has a defining personal role, but can also combine a main job with a subclass drawn from roughly two dozen options, including familiar melee, ranged, magical, and support archetypes. Skill trees unlock active techniques and passives, while rising levels provide more slots for equipping those passive abilities, encouraging specialized builds instead of one fixed route.

Rune stones give weapons and armor additional magical effects, making equipment upgrades a meaningful part of squad planning rather than mere stat inflation. Faith selection adds another layer, granting bonuses and powers tied to different deities, from martial strength to more unconventional economic-minded blessings. Its strongest appeal lies in how many overlapping systems feed into straightforward grid tactics: class combinations, passives, gear effects, and faith can reshape how the same character performs across a campaign.
