Antarctica’s frozen research facilities make an ideal stage for cooperative horror: visibility is poor, corridors feel claustrophobic, and every malfunctioning door may separate your squad from safety. CRYO casts one to four players as technicians dispatched by the genetic corporation ANGENEX after isolated installations abruptly go silent. What begins as a routine investigation turns into a desperate extraction mission when grotesque experimental creatures begin prowling the base. The mood leans tense and methodical rather than action-heavy, with survival depending on nerve, communication, and knowing when to run.

Each session revolves around locating supplies, solving shifting objectives, restoring access to sealed areas, and ultimately securing an escape route before the team is wiped out. Direct combat is not the focus; players crouch through dangerous spaces, hide in lockers, monitor threats, and make smart use of equipment such as cameras, motion sensors, and audio devices. Item locations and task requirements change between rounds, forcing teams to search desks, cabinets, storage rooms, and locked sections instead of relying on memorized routes. Environmental dangers add further pressure, while selectable difficulty settings reduce resources and make the enemy behavior more perceptive, creating a meaningful challenge for experienced groups.

CRYO’s strongest feature is its variable monster system, as different creatures demand different survival habits rather than functioning as a single predictable pursuer. One round may favor careful stealth against a powerful hunter, while another asks players to watch the environment for a more deceptive threat. Multiple exits also create an effective co-op dilemma: getting out quickly can mean leaving limited room for everyone, turning a successful objective run into a last-second negotiation. Fans of Phasmophobia, The Outlast Trials, or Lethal Company who prefer a more grounded facility-horror setting should find plenty to like, while solo players can play alone but miss the game’s best source of tension: panicked teamwork under pressure.
