Deadfall Adventures

Pulp adventure and rapid-fire shooting collide in a 1938 treasure hunt filled with Nazi occultists, ancient curses, and crumbling tombs. Deadfall Adventures casts players as James Lee Quatermain, a cash-strapped relic hunter whose famous family name is both his ticket to work and a source of constant irritation. A mission to escort U.S. agent Jennifer Goodwin into Egypt soon becomes a globe-spanning chase for the Heart of Atlantis, with stops in icy Arctic ruins and dangerous Guatemalan jungle temples. The tone deliberately recalls old serials and Indiana Jones-style matinee adventures: earnest, exotic, and happily packed with supernatural nonsense.

Most of the campaign plays as a straightforward first-person shooter, with period weapons delivering the expected pistols, rifles, shotguns, and automatic fire against soldiers and cult-like adversaries. Quatermain’s adventuring kit matters as much as his arsenal, since a compass, maps, notebook, and flashlight help identify secrets, navigate ruins, and solve environmental puzzles. The flashlight also becomes a defensive tool against certain undead threats, giving encounters with mummies and other creatures a welcome change of pace from ordinary gunfights. Exploration rewards players who inspect side passages for treasure, while traps and hazards can often be turned against enemies rather than simply avoided.

Deadfall Adventures stands out by treating its FPS action as only one half of the fantasy; it wants players to feel like armed archaeologists deciphering a ruin under pressure. Its puzzle design is generally accessible rather than brutally cryptic, making the campaign easy to follow even when it shifts between firefights, light navigation challenges, and supernatural set pieces. Multiplayer extends the theme with adventurer-focused modes and the same 1930s weaponry, though the main attraction remains the single-player tour of lavishly styled tombs and lost cities. Players who enjoy the globe-trotting pulp flavor of Indiana Jones, or want a less grim alternative to military shooters, find plenty to like, while FPS veterans should expect a deliberately old-school, occasionally rough-edged adventure.
