Its clean, toy-like laboratory spaces keep the visuals approachable, but the frequent chain-reaction failures give the game a wonderfully chaotic edge. The tone stays playful rather than punishing, especially when a nearly solved room collapses because someone takes one careless step.

Players move robots one tile at a time across compact puzzle chambers, studying the board before committing to a plan. Hazards often react to a specific robot’s position, meaning one player may need to stand on a switch, block a laser, or expose a safe path while another reaches their goal. The main campaign supports solo play and two-player teams, with the single-player option giving one person control over multiple robots; it is workable alone, though the design shines brightest when people must communicate under pressure. Four-player Party Mode raises the confusion and comedy considerably, while the Vault offers tougher optional experiments for groups that want more intricate layouts.

What separates Death Squared from many co-op puzzle games is how clearly every mistake belongs to the team. Rooms are concise and restart immediately, so failure becomes a fast lesson instead of a major setback, yet later puzzles demand genuine observation, timing, and trust. Witty dialogue and charming robot personalities add flavour between experiments without distracting from the tightly designed challenges. Fans of Overcooked’s frantic cooperation or Portal-style spatial problem-solving find plenty to enjoy here, though the pace is more thoughtful than action-heavy. It suits newcomers because the controls are extremely simple, but veteran puzzle groups get the most from its brutal Vault stages and four-player arguments.
