Rufus returns to the junk-covered planet of Deponia with another absurd disaster on his hands: a future in which his grand plans end in catastrophe. Deponia Doomsday is a hand-drawn point-and-click adventure built around time travel, doomed alternate futures, and the spectacularly selfish decisions of its would-be hero. Its story begins with Rufus trying to prevent a vision of destruction, but every attempt to fix the timeline creates fresh complications involving his allies, his enemies, and multiple versions of himself. The mood is gleefully cartoonish and chaotic, mixing sci-fi stakes with slapstick violence, bizarre inventions, and a protagonist whose confidence far exceeds his competence.

Players roam richly illustrated screens, inspect every strange machine and piece of trash, collect inventory items, and combine them into increasingly ridiculous solutions. Traditional adventure-game logic drives the experience: conversations reveal clues, environmental puzzles block progress, and experimentation often matters more than brute deduction. Time travel is the major twist, allowing Rufus to interact with different points in the story and create situations that would be impossible in a straightforward adventure. The challenge can be demanding, particularly when a puzzle’s intended joke is more apparent than its real-world logic, but optional hint support helps keep the plot moving without handing over every answer.

What separates Deponia Doomsday from most comedy adventures is its willingness to turn its own series history into part of the puzzle, revisiting characters, consequences, and alternate outcomes from earlier entries. The expressive 2D animation, energetic voice work, and dense background gags give every location personality, while the script keeps firing off wordplay and darkly silly detours. Rufus remains intentionally abrasive, so the humor will not land for everyone, but fans of LucasArts-style adventures, The Book of Unwritten Tales, or the earlier Deponia games find plenty to enjoy. It suits genre veterans best, though newcomers who enjoy elaborate inventory puzzles and irreverent comedy can still follow the central time-travel mess.
