Feudal Japan becomes a pressure cooker for a soldier forced to serve a freshly installed Shogun whose rule is built on fear, exploitation, and bloodshed. Disgraced frames its RPG campaign around the uncomfortable gap between obeying orders and doing what is right, asking players to decide when a loyal warrior becomes a rebel. Its fictional story draws energy from real historical tensions, but the focus remains personal: one disgraced recruit trying to turn guilt, anger, and limited resources into a movement capable of challenging a regime. The tone is serious and politically charged, centered on resistance rather than heroic fantasy.

Much of the campaign revolves around building a rebellion from the ground up. Players gather funds and supplies, manage and improve their faction, recruit companions, and decide how to prepare for raids against a far stronger enemy. Battles reward forethought instead of blind aggression, with party composition, available equipment, and careful planning shaping the odds of success. Character development supports different identities within the uprising, allowing a more covert ninja-inspired approach, a direct ronin-style path, or a blend of both as the situation demands.

Faction management gives Disgraced a broader strategic layer than a straightforward party-based RPG, since every success can strengthen the organization behind the protagonist. The companion system also makes each mission feel like a team effort, encouraging players to consider which allies and abilities best fit a particular operation. Rather than presenting rebellion as an easy power fantasy, the game emphasizes scarcity, hard choices, and the cost of fighting entrenched authority. Fans of indie historical RPGs with tactical planning, recruitable allies, and moral tension should find plenty to like, especially if they enjoy the resistance-building side of games such as Mount & Blade or smaller-scale strategy RPGs.
