Black Haze is a decaying mining settlement where wealth, desperation, and political betrayal sit uncomfortably close together. Dungeon Survival casts you as Royde, an agent sent by the crown after the town’s ruler vanishes and the uneasy order holding the region together begins to collapse. Its grim fantasy story is less about spotless heroes than competing interests, suspicious locals, and deciding who deserves justice in a place where morality rarely comes cleanly divided. The result is a focused indie RPG with a harsh, dangerous tone and a strong emphasis on keeping a fragile party alive.

Turn-based battles form the heart of the experience, asking players to read enemy threats, manage positioning and abilities, and make every action count rather than simply trading attacks. A roster of nine classes offers different combat roles and skill sets, so parties can lean toward sturdy defenders, damage specialists, support characters, or flexible hybrid setups. Characters also acquire personal traits that may create useful advantages or troublesome weaknesses, adding another layer to recruitment and tactical planning. Outside combat, Royde follows the main investigation or takes on optional excursions, confronting hostile forces, pursuing criminals, and searching dangerous locations for rewards.

The standout feature is its willingness to make both combat and character management feel risky: a bad matchup, an overlooked ability, or a poorly handled trait can turn an expedition into a costly failure. Powerful uncommon foes offer a meaningful test for optimized groups, with valuable loot serving as the incentive to take on battles that are not safely in your favor. Its presentation and structure land closer to a compact, old-school party RPG than a sprawling open-world adventure, prioritizing tactical encounters over cinematic spectacle. Fans of Darkest Dungeon’s pressure-filled expeditions or classic turn-based dungeon crawlers should find plenty to appreciate, while newcomers need patience for demanding fights and consequences that cannot always be solved by brute force.
