Dungeons 3 blends dungeon management with real-time strategy, casting you as the all-powerful Dungeon Lord and his dark elf lieutenant Thalya while a gleefully melodramatic narrator turns every conquest into a joke at the heroes’ expense. Its mood is wickedly playful rather than grim, full of bumbling paladins, absurd unicorn hatred, and minions who need as much supervision as they need orders. The campaign tells a surprisingly substantial story across a series of maps that steadily add new threats, units, and evil toys.

Most of your time begins underground, where you carve rooms from rock, place traps, build training areas, and keep your creatures supplied with food, gold, mana, and somewhere to sleep. Horde, Demon, and Undead factions each bring distinct workers and combat troops, so a successful dungeon balances economy, defensive corridors, research, and an army capable of handling invading heroes. Once your forces are ready, Thalya and your squads travel to the surface in direct RTS-style battles, capturing objectives, crushing enemy bases, and spreading corruption across the map. Missions often ask you to juggle both layers at once, defending your lair while pushing outward, and the game also includes skirmish and multiplayer options, with procedural maps adding variety beyond the campaign.
