E.E.R.I.E turns the colorful cast and fantasy identity of the Touhou Project into a tense, weapon-heavy indie action game built around conflicting objectives. Rather than following one hero through a single linear campaign, it places Daiyousei, Kijin Seija, and Ringo at the center of separate stories. Each character belongs to a different side of the conflict, pursues her own mission, and can become an enemy to the others, giving the setting a more tactical and uneasy tone than a typical all-star crossover. The result is anime-styled combat with a surprisingly grounded military flavor.

Gunfights revolve around a broad selection of real-world-inspired firearms, from handguns and compact automatic weapons to assault rifles, machine guns, precision rifles, shotguns, and grenade launchers. Weapons are not merely pickups: deep customization lets players adjust their loadouts and select ammunition suited to different combat needs, encouraging preparation as much as reflexes. Throwables further expand the tactical options, allowing players to disrupt positions, pressure opponents, or create openings before committing to a firefight. Choosing a protagonist also changes the available skills and attributes, so success depends on learning how each heroine approaches danger rather than forcing every scenario through the same build.

Its strongest idea is the hostile multi-protagonist structure. Separate goals and faction relationships give each route a distinct perspective on the wider conflict, while the possibility of facing another playable character makes the narrative setup feel more consequential. The contrast between familiar Touhou-inspired character design and comparatively detailed firearm handling gives E.E.R.I.E a niche identity: it is less about elegant bullet-hell patterns and more about equipment, ammunition, positioning, and faction-driven encounters.
