Esoteric Ebb is an isometric, dialogue-heavy RPG built around the role of The Cleric: part occult investigator, part state functionary, and potentially the least reliable person for either job. Five days before the city’s first election, an explosion at a tea shop leaves you waking among bodies in a morgue, with no meaningful backup and a case that quickly reaches far beyond one crime. The mood combines political paranoia, grimy urban fantasy, and deliberately absurd humor.

Most of the action comes through conversations, investigations, and stat checks rather than constant fighting. Dice decide whether you can outtalk a faction leader, pilfer something useful, survive an embarrassing physical challenge, or turn a bad situation into a complete disaster, making failure part of the story instead of merely a reload prompt. Opposing ability voices interrupt and advise The Cleric, creating an internal argument that can push scenes toward insight, obsession, cowardice, or reckless confidence. Its strongest feature is the way character growth, quest tracking, and investigative logic feed into one another through a branching system that feels more like a mental map than a conventional checklist. Decisions do not just open or close side content; they affect alliances, political outcomes, and what kind of authority—or menace—your Cleric becomes in Norvik. The hand-built weirdness recalls Disco Elysium’s skill-driven conversations and ideological messiness, but filters that sensibility through tabletop-style rolls, arcane fantasy, and more overtly flexible magic. Players who enjoy reading, experimenting with strange solutions, and accepting spectacularly bad dice results should find plenty to enjoy, while action-first RPG fans may find its deliberately talkative pace less accommodating.
