Fang would rather chase his next meal than save the world, which gives this fantasy RPG a welcome streak of sarcasm from the start. Caught between the sealed Goddess and Vile God, he becomes a Fencer: a warrior who draws power from living weapons called Furies and the fairies bound to them. The result is a colorful, character-driven adventure where ancient godly conflict shares space with absurd arguments, oddball party members, and plenty of anime comedy. Its tone is far lighter than the premise suggests, though the larger war gradually gives the journey some real stakes.

Battles use a turn-based system built around movement, positioning, attack ranges, and chaining skills into efficient combos. Party members build Tension by giving and taking damage, eventually allowing them to Fairize and merge with their fairy for a far more powerful combat form. Outside fights, dungeon runs supply materials, equipment, new Furies, and recruitable fairies whose skills can be upgraded to improve the party. The most distinctive progression feature is the World Shaping map system: removing Furies from divine seals and planting them in regions changes nearby dungeon conditions, potentially granting experience boosts, altering enemies, opening paths, or adding dangerous drawbacks. Included extras provide early crafting supplies and materials, along with the multi-part Shukesoo’s Tower challenge content for players seeking tougher optional encounters.

Compile Heart’s familiar love of exaggerated character art, expressive dialogue, and systems-heavy JRPG customization is present throughout, but Fairy Fencer F stands apart through the way its fairies actively reshape the map rather than merely functioning as passive gear. The 1080p presentation helps its battle animations and Fairize transformations land with more flair, even if its dungeon environments remain fairly straightforward. Fans of Hyperdimension Neptunia, Tales-style combo building, or cheerful PS3-era Japanese RPGs should find plenty to enjoy. Newcomers can handle the accessible early game, while veterans get the most from experimenting with fairy builds, map effects, and higher-difficulty tower battles.
