Humanity survives beneath a ruined Earth, trapped in the subterranean refuge of Eden while the robotic Vesta force turns from caretaker into oppressor. Fallback is a fast, side-scrolling roguelite platformer built around repeated attempts to break out of that mechanical prison and reach the surface. Its bleak science-fiction setting gives every run a pressured, desperate edge, but the responsive movement and escalating action keep the mood more energetic than oppressive. Rebel leaders await rescue along the way, adding a clear purpose to the climb through humanity’s underground exile.

Each expedition sends a fighter through a shifting chain of procedurally assembled 2.5D chambers packed with platforms, traps, hidden routes, and increasingly aggressive machines. Combat rewards quick reactions: players dodge incoming fire, pick openings around armored foes, and use class-specific abilities to deal with turrets, missile launchers, hulking robots, and major bosses. Death ends the current run, yet earned experience unlocks a broad pool of permanent skills and stronger equipment options, so failure steadily expands the possibilities for the next attempt. Six available fighter types emphasize different approaches, including raw damage, speed, evasive play, and stealth, letting players tailor a build instead of relying on one fixed hero.

What separates Fallback from many roguelites is its emphasis on platforming flow and compact, hand-feeling combat spaces rather than endless loot management. The room layouts change from run to run, while the class system and more than fifty unlockable abilities encourage experimentation with different weapon and movement combinations. Later areas, including the darker Uprising content, push the atmosphere toward unsettling industrial horror without losing the arcade-like pace. Players who enjoy Dead Cells-style repetition, Risk of Rain’s growing pressure, or demanding action platformers will find plenty to work with here, while newcomers can still make meaningful progress thanks to its persistent unlock system.
