SE.RA.PH turns the Fate universe into a flashy battlefield where legendary heroes carve through armies beneath the watch of the Moon Cell, a wish-granting lunar supercomputer. Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star begins after Nero Claudius claims victory in the Holy Grail War, only to find her fragile new rule challenged by rival factions and a threat capable of unmaking the digital world itself. The tone balances huge anime melodrama, intimate character loyalty, and deliberately extravagant spectacle, with familiar Servants treated as both warriors and personalities. Its story follows multiple heroines, so the conflict shifts depending on whose perspective guides the campaign.

Combat plays like a fast, arcade-focused Dynasty Warriors-style action game rather than the tactical RPG battles of Fate/EXTRA. Players select a Servant, capture map sectors, clear dense packs of lesser enemies, and confront named opponents in rapid duels filled with aerial strings, dodges, special attacks, and screen-clearing Noble Phantasms. Each fighter brings a distinct weapon and rhythm, from Nero’s swordplay to the ranged pressure and unusual movement options of other Servants, while skill loadouts and upgrades provide room to tailor a preferred character. Missions regularly ask you to respond to enemy advances and battlefield events, giving the otherwise straightforward hacking-and-slashing a sense of momentum.

What makes EXTELLA appealing is its willingness to treat Fate as a celebratory crossover, pulling characters and ideas from several branches of the franchise into one lavishly animated conflict. The combat is less deep than a dedicated character-action game, and repeating objectives can become noticeable, but the sheer size of the enemy encounters makes every powerful transformation feel appropriately absurd. Japanese voices with English subtitles preserve the series’ dramatic flavor, while alternate routes and side episodes reward players who want more than a single campaign run.
