FINAL FANTASY V (2021) is the Pixel Remaster of Square’s 1992 RPG, presenting its classic tale with refreshed sprite work, cleaner menus, and a newly arranged score. Bartz, his Chocobo companion Boko, and a memorable party of allies travel by airship, ship, and more unusual means across a colorful world full of secret paths, eccentric villains, and escalating crystal-powered threats. Its tone is lighter and more comedic than some later entries, but the story still knows when to turn serious.

Turn-based battles revolve around selecting commands, exploiting enemy weaknesses, managing healing, and surviving dangerous boss encounters. The defining feature is the flexible Job system: characters can become knights, mages, thieves, summoners, dancers, ninjas, and many other classes, then carry mastered abilities into different jobs for potent custom combinations. The remaster smooths out the experience with a more readable interface, auto-battle options for routine encounters, and quality-of-life adjustments that make grinding less tedious without removing the strategic demands of late-game fights.

Its freedom of character development remains unusually satisfying, especially for an RPG of its era; few 16-bit adventures make tinkering with party roles feel so rewarding. The updated pixel art respects the original’s bright, expressive look, while Nobuo Uematsu’s rearranged music gives familiar locations and battles extra presence. A bestiary, artwork collection, and music player add welcome archival value, although players looking for every bonus dungeon and job from later ports should know this version focuses on the original release. Fans of FINAL FANTASY III’s job experimentation, classic Dragon Quest, or traditional turn-based RPGs find a smart, approachable adventure here, while genre veterans can push its systems into wonderfully overpowered territory.
