Two Zodiac Jobs per character shape weapons, armor, spells, and abilities, allowing meaningful party specialization without forcing every hero into the same role. Outside the main campaign, hunts, optional bosses, rare monsters, minigames, loot gathering, and side quests make the journey considerably broader than its central plot alone.

What separates this entry from many Japanese RPGs is its blend of MMO-like battlefield flow and carefully scripted single-player strategy. Battles can look hands-off once a Gambit setup works, but difficult encounters reward rethinking jobs, equipment, status effects, positioning, and automation priorities rather than simply grinding levels. The PC remaster runs smoothly at high frame rates, supports ultrawide displays and controllers, and includes improved audio options, New Game Plus, and New Game Minus for repeat runs.
