Lost objects form a civilization of their own in the Forgotten Lands, where discarded possessions wake with scraps of memory and search for a reason to exist. Forgotlings casts players as Fig, a former posing doll who commands the sentient lightship Volare and carries the difficult job of reconciling five divided peoples. Its fantasy is gentle but melancholy, built around forgotten cities, huge skies, and communities whose beliefs clash as much as their interests. The result is a cinematic indie RPG that values conversation and consequence as much as action.

Fig travels between settlements, investigates problems, recruits allies, and chooses how to approach conflicts that threaten the region’s uneasy peace. Combat supports direct hack-and-slash attacks as well as quieter stealth tactics, while settlement defense and tense encounters keep the journey from becoming a purely conversational adventure. A dialogue wheel gives choices more pressure than a simple list of responses, and character upgrades expand Fig’s options as the campaign develops. Diplomacy also takes a mechanical form through INA, a tactical tabletop contest with ideas drawn from chess and Go, used to resolve disputes without simply reaching for a weapon; Story Mode accommodates players who prefer the narrative over demanding encounters.

Hand-drawn, frame-by-frame animation gives every character and landscape a storybook quality, but the tone has enough sorrow and uncertainty to avoid feeling childish. Each tribe—the scholarly Videra, inventive Aufero, caring Servus, daring Sonavi, and spiritual Karus—brings its own worldview, making unity feel like a problem to solve rather than a predetermined ending. The choral score from Theatre of Voices strengthens the sense of old myths and fading memories, while the airship provides an appealing focal point for travel and discovery. Fans of Forgotton Anne, thoughtful adventure games, and choice-led RPGs should find plenty to like, especially if they want a stylized world where empathy, negotiation, and tactical play share equal importance.
