Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark (v1.6.1 & ALL DLC)

A sprawling Demon Realm replaces the straightforward stage-by-stage structure of the previous adventure, turning Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark into a proper exploration-driven action platformer. Demon Lord Maxim lies in pieces, and his two newest servants, Kirika and Masha, must recover his scattered bones while restoring the fallen inhabitants of his castle. The result is a colorful gothic quest with pixel-art charm, lively character scenes, and enough sinister atmosphere to balance its playful anime presentation.

Kirika handles threats at range with demonic firearms, while Masha takes control of crowded encounters with her close-range whip, and swapping between them is central to survival. Hidden routes, environmental puzzles, locked barriers, and dangerous boss arenas continually test whether you are using the right sister, weapon, or newly acquired movement ability. Enemies and chests supply consumables, relics, and sub-weapons, with crafting and combination systems allowing excess equipment to become more useful upgrades instead of mere loot clutter. A fallen sister is not immediately gone for good, either: reaching her position lets the surviving sibling perform a risky rescue, adding a cooperative-style recovery mechanic even when playing alone.

Castle restoration gives the adventure a satisfying sense of progress beyond filling in the map, as revived vassals return home and unlock support services that make the journey more manageable. Randomized drops and build-focused relics encourage experimentation, while the adjustable Casual, Veteran, and Legend styles let players change the challenge without sacrificing content or restarting the campaign. Its strongest appeal lies in the contrast between deliberate Metroidvania backtracking and crisp, arcade-like combat inherited from classic 2D action games. Fans of Bloodstained, Castlevania, or Inti Creates’ sharp pixel-art platformers should feel at home, while flexible difficulty makes it approachable for newcomers who want the exploration without an overly punishing wall.
