Gastova: The Witches of Arkana is a cheerful 2D action-platformer built around magical duels, colorful fantasy regions, and a mystery involving corrupted guardians. Its story gives the usual “defeat the bosses to save the world” structure a warmer edge: each major opponent is someone Gastova once trusted, so every victory also helps repair a damaged relationship. The mood stays playful and approachable even when the stakes turn serious, with strange creatures, hidden treasure, and plenty of magical spectacle.

Movement follows classic platforming fundamentals: run through stages, clear hazards, leap across gaps, evade enemy patterns, and fire spells at anything hostile. Eight distinct environments provide their own enemy rosters and obstacles, while each location culminates in demanding battles against protectors and the witches guarding the founts. Defeated witches bestow blessings that expand Gastova’s arsenal, letting her channel allied elemental powers through stronger staff techniques or summon helpful companion creatures. Staves found during the adventure offer different attack styles, encouraging players to adjust their approach for sturdier foes, while money, health and mana pickups, upgrade materials, and stat stones feed into steady character improvement.

Boss encounters are the centerpiece, mixing bullet-dodging pressure with a growing selection of magical attacks rather than relying on a single weapon for the entire campaign. Randomized chest finds and concealed rewards add a little curiosity to the route, although not every inviting chest is as harmless as it appears. The hand-drawn 2D presentation and light narrative make the adventure feel closer to a compact, character-driven platform shooter than a sprawling metroidvania, with progression focused on completing areas instead of getting lost in a maze.
