Two embattled lords lead a party across a threatened island realm in Gears of Phantasm: Destiny Tailored (Act I), a fantasy RPG built around elemental relics, political guidance, and an ominous figure operating from the shadows. Their mission begins with the hunt for four elemental orbs, but the larger question is more personal: why have these rulers become targets in the first place? The tone leans toward traditional heroic fantasy, with courtly intrigue and local crises sitting alongside a more dangerous supernatural plot. As the first act of a larger story, it focuses on assembling allies and uncovering the foundations of the conflict.

Progress comes through travelling the Open World Isles, speaking to residents, accepting quests, gathering materials, and deciding whether to follow the court advisor’s suggested route or search for answers independently. Combat uses an unusual hybrid structure described as turn-based, first-person, and real-time, asking players to select skills while reacting quickly to enemy battle states and defensive options before opponents act. Party members gain ranks over time, giving the group more capability for tougher encounters and encouraging players to build a balanced team rather than relying on a single hero. Resources come from exploration, crafting, and merchants, so preparation matters before taking on dangerous foes or pursuing major objectives.

Its strongest hook is the attempt to blend old-school party RPG structure with more reflex-driven tactical battles. Rather than keeping players on a narrow story track, the game allows detours for side quests, resource hunting, and helping people across the islands, while the central orb quest gives exploration a clear purpose. The first-person combat perspective also separates it from many top-down or menu-heavy indie RPGs, even if its systems may take time to understand.
