Governance casts you as anything from a backbench MP to a party leader or Prime Minister, asking you to survive the shifting loyalties, media storms, and electoral pressures of modern Britain. Its tone mixes serious political simulation with biting satire, so career-ending scandals and ideological battles sit alongside the absurdity that often defines public life. Rather than treating power as a simple election win, it frames government as a long campaign of relationships, compromises, and consequences.

Each turn of political life revolves around advancing policies, managing the economy, responding to major events, and building enough influence to keep rivals from derailing your plans. More than a thousand possible events can disrupt a carefully laid strategy, while fifty policies give players room to shape a platform around taxation, public services, social issues, and wider national priorities. Alliances are essential: cultivate friendships, network with useful figures, trade favors, or expose damaging information when persuasion fails. Decisions carry forward over years, allowing old controversies to return, party support to erode, and once-secure governments to collapse under accumulated pressure; the in-game Wiki and Address Book help track the people and information behind those shifts.

What separates Governance from lighter political games is its Entity Beliefs System, which maps characters and parties across as many as twelve ideological dimensions instead of forcing everyone onto a basic left-versus-right scale. Beliefs, rhetoric, and party identities can change over time, making campaigns feel less predictable than a fixed-stat electoral simulator. Players unhappy with the established options can form entirely new parties, write policies, and use modding tools to build custom events, scenarios, and ideological systems.
