Rain lashes a dying industrial frontier where a woodsman’s hunt for vengeance turns into a far stranger conspiracy. Gunbrella is a side-scrolling action-adventure with a filthy noir-punk atmosphere, blending murder-mystery investigation with fast, physical combat. Its world runs on an exhausted natural resource, and the resulting desperation seeps into every flooded street, crooked business, and grotesque resident. The tone is bleak but enjoyably absurd, populated by cultists, criminals, corrupt authorities, and supernatural horrors that keep escalating beyond the hero’s original mission.

At the center of everything is the Gunbrella: a heavy firearm built into an umbrella frame. It blasts enemies at close range, but it also serves as a mobility tool, letting the woodsman glide across gaps, swing through spaces, charge forward, and drop rapidly onto targets. Progress involves moving between compact but interconnected locations, questioning suspicious characters, collecting clues in a notebook, and returning to earlier areas when new movement options reveal hidden routes. Scrap scavenged from the environment can be traded for ammunition types and upgrades, while enemy encounters demand sharper use of positioning and the Gunbrella’s movement tricks as tougher monsters enter the picture.

What separates Gunbrella from a standard pixel-art Metroidvania is its commitment to detective work and its weird, industrial-folklore setting. Conversations and notebook entries give the journey an investigative backbone, while the grimy art, dense rain effects, and sharp animation make each town, junkyard, and ruin feel distinct. Combat is punchy rather than overly technical, but players who enjoy mastering movement to uncover secrets get more from the experience. Fans of moody 2D adventures such as Katana ZERO, The Messenger, or early Dead Cells should find plenty to like, especially if they want a shorter, story-driven game with a memorable central gadget.
