An ink-sketched frontier turns a familiar rescue story into a sharp, compact platforming challenge. Set in an exaggerated 18XX Wild West, Gunman Clive follows a lone gunslinger pursuing the bandits who abduct the mayor’s daughter and leave chaos across the territory. The tone is playful rather than grim, but the action is demanding: dusty towns, moving trains, icy caves, and other changing backdrops continually introduce new hazards. Its hand-drawn, pencil-and-paper look gives every stage a distinctive identity while 3D environments add depth behind the classic side-scrolling path.

Most of the adventure revolves around running, jumping, and firing through short obstacle-filled levels packed with outlaws, animals, machines, and environmental traps. Clive can shoot in several directions, leap over danger, and use careful timing to cross crumbling platforms, avoid projectiles, and survive fast-moving set pieces. Enemy encounters are simple to understand but punishing when the screen becomes crowded, and large bosses test pattern recognition as much as reflexes. Three playable characters provide alternate ways to tackle the campaign, while controller support makes it especially well suited to gamepad play. Sixteen stages keep the experience brisk, with checkpoints and escalating challenges preventing it from becoming a casual sightseeing tour.

What separates Gunman Clive from countless retro platformers is how confidently it combines old-school structure with its unusual monochrome sketch presentation and fully modeled scenery. Levels rarely linger on one idea too long, moving from straightforward shootouts to vehicle sequences and climactic boss fights with a satisfying arcade rhythm. The design feels closer to the focused, demanding runs of Mega Man than to a sprawling modern action game, though its Western flavor and visual style make it far more than a copy. Fans of tight 2D platformers, score-chasing replays, and concise campaigns should find plenty to enjoy, while newcomers should expect a fair but firm test of their timing.
