Thugtown turns Prohibition-era gangster fiction into a loud, bloody 2D run-and-gun where mobsters, government agents, and the undead all compete to ruin Vinnie Cannoli’s day. Set in the mid-1920s, the campaign follows Vinnie as he hunts for a missing friend and digs into the outbreak swallowing the city from below. The mood is knowingly ridiculous but surprisingly grimy, mixing old-school crime drama, pulpy conspiracy, and cartoonishly excessive zombie slaughter. Hand-drawn backdrops, smoky bars, sewer tunnels, docks, and ruined streets give every level the feel of a violent animated gangster film.

Play revolves around pushing through side-scrolling stages, jumping across hazards, grabbing stronger weapons, and turning huge waves of enemies into red mist. Vinnie begins with dependable firearms but steadily finds shotguns, machine guns, flamethrowers, rocket launchers, and other tools built for clearing crowded rooms; ammunition encourages swapping weapons rather than relying on one favorite. Enemies range from shambling zombies and armed goons to nastier special threats, while explosive scenery and destructible objects add welcome chaos to each firefight. The campaign supports up to four players in local co-op, making its hectic encounters much more entertaining when allies are accidentally launching rockets into one another.

What separates Guns, Gore & Cannoli from a standard zombie shooter is its commitment to the gangster theme: the slang, cutscenes, weaponry, and absurd plot all serve the same 1920s crime-cartoon identity. Its movement and shooting are deliberately straightforward, closer to Metal Slug than a demanding precision platformer, though the sheer enemy volume can punish careless players on higher difficulties. The short campaign stays focused, and co-op plus versus modes provide reasons to revisit its compact collection of stages after the story ends. Fans of arcade action, couch co-op carnage, and stylized zombie games will find plenty to like, while solo players who enjoy Contra-style shooting with a more comic-book presentation are equally well served.
