Part 1 follows the hunt for Voldemort’s Horcruxes across forests, villages, and Ministry-controlled territory, with Harry, Ron, and Hermione living as fugitives rather than students. Part 2 shifts to the assault on Hogwarts, turning familiar corridors and courtyards into a war zone filled with Death Eaters, Snatchers, giants, and desperate allies. The tone is notably bleaker than earlier adaptations, closely following the films’ sense that the wizarding world is collapsing.

Combat drives both games, with Harry casting aimed spells from an over-the-shoulder viewpoint while using cover to survive incoming fire. Expelliarmus, Stupefy, Protego, and heavier offensive magic fill roles similar to weapons in a third-person shooter, while enemies demand quick targeting, shield timing, and smart positioning. Part 1 mostly keeps control with Harry during linear missions built around tracking Horcrux leads, escaping hostile forces, and surviving ambushes. Part 2 expands the playable roster, letting players control key members of Dumbledore’s Army and Hogwarts staff, each with differing magical attacks and a role in the castle’s defense.

What separates these entries from older Harry Potter games is their commitment to cinematic action rather than open-ended Hogwarts exploration, potion brewing, puzzle-heavy lessons, or Quidditch. The spell effects, destructible cover, and recognizable film locations give the duology a satisfying sense of scale, especially once Hogwarts becomes the center of the conflict. Neither installment offers the freedom or role-playing depth of modern licensed adventures, and the shooting-inspired structure can feel repetitive, but the pacing stays focused and accessible. Fans who want to relive the finale with more direct control over its biggest battles will find a solid, story-driven companion to the films, while players expecting the exploratory charm of the earlier games should adjust their expectations.
