High On Life (v2023.11.01 & ALL DLC)

An alien drug empire turns humanity into its newest commodity, leaving an aimless teenager to grab a living weapon and start collecting bounties across a grotesque, colorful galaxy. High On Life is a single-player first-person shooter built around absurd improvisational comedy, bizarre creature design, and a deliberately chatty cast of sentient guns. Its humor carries the loose, irreverent energy associated with Justin Roiland’s animated work, but the story stands on its own rather than tying into any existing series. Beneath the jokes is a surprisingly polished adventure about dismantling the G3 Cartel one eccentric boss at a time.

Most missions begin at your home base in the rebuilt city of Blim, where you choose a target, travel to an alien world, and push through combat arenas, traversal challenges, and side activities. Each living gun brings more than a different firing style: Kenny launches sticky glob shots, Gus handles close-range blasts and saw blades, Sweezy manipulates enemies with time-slowing projectiles, and Creature unleashes small hostile allies. Switching between them is essential, since their alternate attacks open routes, solve environmental puzzles, and exploit enemy weaknesses. Bounty rewards fund upgrades such as stronger ammo capacity, shields, and movement tools, while optional Luglox chests, collectible gear, warp crystals, and Hunter Forum tasks reward players who search beyond the main path. Combat is accessible and fast-moving, with jetpack mobility eventually letting you boost, dodge, and navigate vertical spaces.

Its greatest strength is commitment to a strange universe that never feels visually ordinary, moving from dense alien forests to industrial slums and an asteroid settlement packed with oddball NPCs. Guns comment constantly on fights, exploration, bad decisions, and even long stretches of inactivity, which makes the game either wonderfully lively or intentionally exhausting depending on your tolerance for nonstop banter. The campaign is not a deep loot shooter or an especially demanding FPS, but its boss encounters, expressive weapons, and compact worlds give it more mechanical variety than a comedy game usually offers. Fans of Borderlands-style gunplay, Ratchet & Clank gadgets, and adult animated humor should find plenty to enjoy, while players seeking a serious story or multiplayer action should look elsewhere.
