Answers about the building’s occupants and its strange events are not handed over easily, so survival depends on paying attention as much as keeping your nerve.

Most of the experience revolves around searching the sprawling interior for supplies, useful materials, mysterious objects, and temporary safe areas while managing the risks attached to every discovery. A flashlight and lighter are essential tools, but illumination does not make exploration comfortable; it merely reveals more places for danger to hide. Junk collected during runs can be brought to a workbench and turned into passive upgrades or consumables, including improvements to movement, carrying capacity, storage, recovery, and potion-like effects. Some items are hazardous rather than helpful, and encounters with an unidentified pursuer shift the focus from scavenging to escape, forcing you to run, break line of sight, or hide until the threat passes.

The crafting-driven survival loop gives Horror Explus more structure than a straightforward haunted-house walking simulator, since each risky search can feed into better odds on later excursions. Its strongest hook is the contrast between methodical inventory management and sudden helplessness: players can prepare, but they cannot simply overpower what stalks them. Dark interiors, cursed items, and the possibility of dangerous loot create a tense, unpredictable rhythm reminiscent of indie survival horror with a light scavenging-game layer.
