Into Black is a first-person VR action-adventure about a deep-space scavenger stranded beneath the surface of an alien planet, trying to gather what is needed to repair a wrecked ship. Its mood balances claustrophobic survival horror with pulp sci-fi adventure, helped by the presence of a chatty assistant droid whose priorities can be amusingly mundane. The fully voiced story gives the mining and monster fighting a larger purpose, gradually pulling Ben Mitchell toward something far older and stranger than a simple crash landing.

Most of the experience revolves around pushing farther into dangerous underground regions, harvesting useful materials, and surviving whatever emerges from the dark. Players wield a selection of weapons against aggressive alien creatures, while VR’s first-person perspective makes every close encounter feel immediate and physical. Resources feed the central escape effort, so exploration carries practical stakes beyond sightseeing or score chasing. The complete campaign supports solo play or cooperative sessions for up to four players total, allowing a group to divide attention between combat, gathering, and watching the tunnels for incoming threats.

Its strongest hook is the contrast between expedition-style progression and varied alien environments: molten chambers, flooded caves, twisting passageways, and creature-infested nests keep the descent from feeling visually flat. Rather than offering a broad open universe, it concentrates on tense, handcrafted-feeling subterranean exploration where limited visibility shapes every decision. Co-op adds a welcome social layer to a premise that could otherwise feel relentlessly isolating, while solo players get the full benefit of the story’s lonely-survivor tone. Into Black suits VR players who enjoy the survival pressure of sci-fi horror but want more direct action and narrative momentum than a pure crafting sandbox provides.
