Matches center on the Offensive mode, with one side capturing objectives and driving through successive sectors while defenders hold prepared lines. Six historical classes give squads distinct jobs, from assault troops clearing wire and storming trenches to officers coordinating support, engineers reinforcing positions, and specialists operating heavy weapons. Players select era-appropriate rifles, pistols, equipment, and perks, then use wire cutters, bandages, grenades, mortars, machine guns, and mountain guns to create an opening. Flares are especially important, letting leaders direct artillery barrages or aircraft attacks, while colored signals help communicate an advance when voice chat and map awareness are not enough.

Terrain gives Isonzo its strongest identity. Narrow paths invite ambushes, rocky slopes offer risky flanks, and every defended ridge feels more valuable because reaching it takes real effort; building sandbags, placing ammunition crates, and setting up periscopes can make a position hold. Combat has the deliberate, punishing pace familiar from Verdun and Tannenberg, but its vertical maps and shifting battlefields make it feel less like a standard trench shooter. Historical presentation extends to uniforms, weapons, architecture, and the progression of individual offensives, without sacrificing readable multiplayer objectives.
