Just Cause 3 (v1.05 & ALL DLC)

Medici’s sunlit islands become a sprawling demolition playground as Rico Rodriguez returns to topple the military regime of General Sebastiano Di Ravello. Just Cause 3 trades subtlety for spectacular, player-driven destruction, framing its revolution around collapsing fuel tanks, hijacking jets, and turning enemy bases into chain reactions of fireballs. The tone is knowingly ridiculous and loud, with a thin but energetic action-movie story that mainly exists to send Rico toward another dictatorship-owned installation. Beneath the tropical postcard scenery lies a country packed with military checkpoints, villages, airfields, and colossal weapons waiting to be dismantled.

Rico moves through the world using his signature grapple, unlimited parachute, and a far more capable wingsuit, creating one of the best traversal toolkits in open-world action games. The basic loop involves scouting hostile territory, destroying propaganda and infrastructure, taking on missions, and causing enough chaos to free settlements and unlock new challenges. Tethers let players connect objects, enemies, vehicles, and explosives in absurd combinations: pull a statue down, sling a soldier into a gas tank, or attach boosters to a truck and turn it into an accidental missile. Weapons, vehicles, and gear mods expand the possibilities, while optional races, stunt trials, and combat challenges provide upgrades for Rico’s equipment; the campaign is single-player only.

What separates Just Cause 3 from more grounded sandbox games is its commitment to physical mayhem and improvisation. Few open worlds make simply getting from one objective to another as entertaining as skimming over mountains in a wingsuit, grappling onto a helicopter, then parachuting into a fortified base. Its missions can become repetitive, and the story never matches the strength of the sandbox, but Medici remains an exceptionally fun place to break things. Fans of Far Cry’s outpost clearing, GTA’s vehicle chaos, or the explosive freedom of earlier Just Cause entries find plenty to enjoy, especially if they value spectacle over realism.
