A cursed island loses its light, and a pair of wooden totems becomes its unlikely salvation in this inventive puzzle-platformer. Kalimba turns the familiar act of running and jumping into a constant test of coordination: you control two characters at once, stacked one above the other, while navigating a surreal route from shadowy caverns toward the sky. Its bright, stylized environments contrast sharply with saws, spikes, collapsing paths, and other lethal traps, giving the adventure a playful look with a demanding edge.

Every movement affects both halves of your totem, so a safe landing for one character can send the other into danger. Levels revolve around precise platforming, timed hazards, color-coded surfaces, switches, and transformations that alter how the totems move through the world; certain obstacles only support a matching color, forcing you to think about vertical positioning as much as forward momentum. Checkpoints keep the frequent deaths from becoming exhausting, but later stages expect clean timing and quick problem-solving. Solo play already feels like managing a tiny platforming puzzle in motion, while local co-op raises the chaos and challenge by asking players to coordinate multiple paired totems on the same screen.

Kalimba stands out because its central gimmick is more than a novelty: controlling stacked heroes creates puzzles that conventional side-scrollers cannot easily replicate. The clean geometric art direction, expressive animation, and steadily escalating obstacle design give it the approachable appearance of a family-friendly platformer without sacrificing the precision associated with tougher indie favorites. Completionists also get extra reasons to replay stages for better performances and hidden objectives, while couch co-op makes failures as funny as they are frustrating.
