Its premise is absurd, colorful, and deliberately childish in the best way, pairing surreal Japanese humor with a cheerful soundtrack that makes every escalating disaster feel like a party. What starts with thumbtacks, candies, and mice soon turns into bicycles, people, buildings, and eventually whole landmasses.

Each stage gives you a Katamari ball, a target size, and usually a strict timer. You steer the Prince by using both analog sticks—or their keyboard equivalent—to push, turn, reverse, and roll over anything small enough to stick; every collected object increases your size and opens up previously impossible targets. Levels reward route planning as much as reflexes, since knowing where dense clusters of objects sit can mean the difference between barely meeting a goal and building a spectacularly oversized ball. Alternate objectives mix up the formula with challenges involving constellations, specific item types, or preserving the ball’s shape, while local two-player support adds a silly competitive option.

The appeal lies in scale: a cramped apartment gradually becomes a toy box, then a neighborhood, then a world-sized playground viewed from an ever more ridiculous perspective. REROLL refreshes the original’s visuals in HD and recreates its cutscenes, but wisely leaves the strange charm, eccentric character designs, and famously infectious music intact. Controls can feel intentionally slippery at first, and the camera occasionally struggles in tight spaces, yet mastering the awkward momentum becomes part of the joke.
