Kill Yourself

A bleak apartment, a disastrous day, and a protagonist with nothing left to lose set the stage for a deliberately tasteless point-and-click comedy. Kill Yourself frames its grim premise through chunky retro pixel art, absurd situations, and pitch-black jokes rather than realism. After losing his job, marriage, food, friends, and even his dignity, the unnamed loser looks for a final escape—while the game constantly undercuts the misery with cartoon logic. The tone is knowingly crude and irreverent, closer to an old freeware adventure gag than a serious depiction of depression.

Most of the playtime revolves around clicking through small scenes, collecting odd items, examining scenery, and combining inventory objects in increasingly ridiculous ways. Each successful chain of interactions can lead to one of roughly 30 endings, encouraging players to reload, test every suspicious object, and see how far the game’s cruel joke can stretch. Progress follows classic adventure-game logic, so solutions sometimes require experimentation rather than straightforward reasoning. Autosaving reduces the annoyance of failed attempts, while achievements provide an extra reason to hunt down every possible outcome.

Its strongest feature is commitment to a single, darkly comic premise: nearly every puzzle exists to produce another exaggerated punchline or bizarre finale. The oversized pixels and sparse presentation evoke early LucasArts-style adventures, although the structure is much shorter and more focused on discovering endings than unraveling a large narrative. A tongue-in-cheek self-help book adds a strange counterweight to the game’s morbid setup, but the humor remains intentionally uncomfortable throughout. Fans of compact, edgy indie adventures and players who enjoy trial-and-error comedy will find plenty to uncover; anyone sensitive to suicide-related humor should probably skip it.
