Teana looks very different when its so-called monsters become the heroes. King’s Bounty: Dark Side is a fantasy RPG built around a campaign of revenge and survival, following Orc, Demon, and Vampire factions pushed to the edge by the armies of Light. You choose one of three protagonists—orc warrior Bagyr, demoness leader Neoleene, or vampire mage Daert—then lead their forces across a new region filled with hostile kingdoms, strange allies, and darkly comic quests. Its mood remains colorful and playful despite the war-focused premise, mixing fairy-tale landscapes with demons, undead, and plenty of exaggerated fantasy personalities.

Exploration unfolds across large overworld maps where you collect treasure, recruit units, speak to quest givers, uncover artifacts, and decide which fights are worth taking. Battles shift to tactical hex-grid arenas, with every unit type bringing distinct movement, attacks, resistances, special abilities, and battlefield roles; careful positioning matters far more than simple numbers. Your chosen hero determines your starting strengths and spell options, while experience, equipment, leadership limits, and a steadily expanding army create the main progression loop. Defeated troops do not automatically return, so winning efficiently and protecting valuable units is essential, especially when facing stronger roaming armies or fortified enemies.

The appeal lies in its deliberately reversed perspective: rather than serving human kings and shining paladins, you build a coalition from factions normally cast as villains. Dark Side keeps the series’ signature mix of open-ended map scavenging, army management, turn-based tactics, and surprisingly dense quest writing, giving each region more personality than a simple sequence of battles. Combat rewards patience, spell use, and knowledge of unit interactions in a way that recalls Heroes of Might and Magic, but with a more personal RPG structure and a single hero at the center. Fans of earlier King’s Bounty entries will find a familiar but substantial new campaign, while tactical RPG newcomers can enjoy it if they are comfortable learning through tough, methodical encounters.
