A battered fictional computer becomes the doorway to eight sharply different puzzle games, each presented as software found on its hard drive. Last Call BBS is Zachtronics at its most playful and nostalgic: part puzzle anthology, part loving recreation of the era when strange utilities, shareware curiosities, and hobbyist programs lived side by side. Its fake Z5 Powerlance desktop gives every program its own identity, from a grim bio-horror crafting tool to colourful anime-model assembly. The mood shifts constantly, but the underlying appeal remains the same—careful thinking, experimentation, and the satisfaction of turning an ugly first attempt into an elegant solution.

The most substantial challenge comes from 20th Century Food Court, where players lay out compact automated production lines and refine them for speed, cost, and efficiency. ChipWizard Professional applies similar systems-thinking to circuit design, asking you to connect components and make increasingly demanding electronic logic work within strict constraints. Elsewhere, Dungeons & Diagrams uses deduction to reveal dungeon maps without trapping your adventurer, while Sawayama Solitaire and Kabufuda Solitaire provide deep card-rule variations for quieter sessions. STEED FORCE Hobby Studio is a wonderfully tactile digital model-kit builder, X’BPGH: The Forbidden Path turns grotesque sculpture into an unsettling puzzle ritual, and HACK*MATCH offers a polished tile-matching campaign plus local competitive play.

What makes the collection special is how convincingly each program feels like it comes from a different corner of an alternate computer history. Rather than padding one large concept, it offers several focused games with distinct rules, interfaces, aesthetics, and difficulty curves, so a frustrating circuit puzzle can be replaced by solitaire or model building without leaving the machine. Optimization fans who enjoy Opus Magnum, Shenzhen I/O, or Factorio’s production planning find the richest material here, but the anthology’s smaller games make it more approachable than many Zachtronics releases. Patient puzzle veterans get weeks of score-chasing and refinement, while curious newcomers can sample its stranger ideas one executable at a time.
