Wakefield’s ruined suburbs become a colorful monster playground where four teenagers turn the apocalypse into an after-school adventure. The Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom is a light action RPG built around the humor and energy of the animated series, following Jack, Quint, June, and Dirk as they race to keep the Staff of Doom away from the villainous Malondre. Zombies, oversized creatures, and familiar show bosses fill the streets, but the mood stays breezy rather than grim. It is a kid-friendly brawler with enough chaos and character to make smashing through a crowd feel satisfying.

Each hero brings a distinct fighting style and special abilities, encouraging players to pick a favorite or build a balanced local team. Missions send the group across a semi-open Wakefield to clear enemy packs, pursue story objectives, gather resources, and face larger boss encounters. Between battles, crafting materials improve personal attacks, reinforce the treehouse headquarters, and upgrade Big Mama, the gang’s improvised vehicle. Summoned allies such as Bardle and Skaelka can swing difficult fights, while Horde Mode strips away the questing and focuses on surviving escalating enemy waves.

Rather than aiming for demanding loot systems or punishing combat, the game keeps its progression accessible and its action easy to read, making it well suited to younger players and families. Four-player couch co-op is the real highlight: combining different heroes’ attacks, reviving friends, and defending against a screen full of monsters captures the cooperative arcade feel of games like Castle Crashers, though with simpler RPG systems. Fans of the books or cartoon receive the strongest payoff through the recognizable cast and world, including Malondre as a new threat. Solo players can still enjoy the campaign, but anyone looking for a relaxed, colorful local co-op action game gets the most from it.
