Last Labyrinth (VR)

A wheelchair, a dark mansion, and a girl who cannot understand your words create an unusually intimate kind of horror in Last Labyrinth. This first-person escape-room adventure traps you in a succession of cruelly designed chambers where every mechanism may conceal a solution, a trap, or an especially nasty death. Katia is your only companion: silent in any familiar language, watchful, and essential to survival. The mood lands somewhere between the lonely fairy-tale melancholy of ICO and the elaborate punishment rooms of Saw, with VR making the player’s physical helplessness feel deliberately uncomfortable.

Unable to walk or use your hands freely, you direct Katia through gaze-based cues and a laser pointer, asking her to pull levers, carry objects, inspect clues, and take risks you cannot take yourself. Each room presents a self-contained puzzle built around observation, timing, spatial logic, and communication without dialogue; success depends on noticing how the environment and Katia’s actions connect. Failure is often fatal, and the mansion does not soften its gruesome consequences, so experimentation carries real tension even when restarting a chamber is quick. Multiple routes and endings encourage repeat runs, while the adventure’s roughly ten-plus-hour scope comes largely from revisiting rooms, solving alternate puzzle paths, and uncovering the fate of Katia and the unseen captor.

What separates Last Labyrinth from standard VR escape games is the relationship at its center. Katia’s invented speech, expressive animation, and the player’s limited ability to communicate turn simple commands into a fragile partnership, supported by a haunting score from Hiroki Kikuta and voice work by Stefanie Joosten. Its puzzles can occasionally become opaque, and the deliberately restrained movement will not suit players seeking action, but the seated design also makes it more comfortable than many room-scale VR titles. VR remains the best way to experience its scale and vulnerability, though Lucidity Lost monitor mode allows headset-free play.
